Guide to Tinder Profile Photos

Guide to Tinder Profile Photos

Dearest Men of the World,

I am writing you this letter out of love, not anger or annoyance. I sincerely hope you take this message with grace and a desire to change rather than a need to rebel, as my intent is to only aid in your future romantic endeavors, no matter what your desired outcome might be. I have recently noticed a serious decrease in the overall quality of your Tinder profile pictures. I am only partially talking about those of you whose pictures are too blurry to decipher or just lack proper photograph proportions in general (in those cases, I would be more than happy to provide you who live in NYC with a principles of photography class for 100 dollars an hour.)

In an effort to help you, I am going to start off by listing some of the very best type of tinder profile pictures and then highlight some of the very worst. Please take note. I am happy to officiate any wedding that these profile changes might lead to. Just give me a little bit to get ordained online.

I think I’ve found my soul mate and now im buying Hinge: A Saga in the Form of a Letter

I think I’ve found my soul mate and now im buying Hinge: A Saga in the Form of a Letter

Dearest Friend and Reader,

As I sit on the train, headed all the way to the opposite side of the
city on a train bound for midtown, I must reflect on the boys lost and
those of the future.

Simply put, as I sat on my L train emerging into civilization from the
deep, dark middle of nowhere depths of Ridgewood, Queens, I can not
help but open my handy dandy free dating apps and begin to swipe. As I
swish and swish my finger back and forth through the meaningless
pictures of idiotic boys who do unbelievably idiotic things like write
“man” as their profession, I stumble upon the ONE. Unfortunately, at
this point in my life, I had run out of likes, yet I can still promise
with the utmost sincerity and absoluteness that this man is the man
for me.

Here are the criteria that make be POSITIVE that darling TJ is such a
perfect match. In no particular order:

Perks of Tinder Gold (In the form of a poem)

Perks of Tinder Gold (In the form of a poem)

The other day, while sitting with a friend, bored on my bed,

“Let’s go swiping on each other’s Tinder”, she simply said,

I really couldn’t help but agree,

Because swiping on other’s phones just fills me with glee.

As we went through the many profiles and pics,

We got barely any matches, not getting our fix.

Though we swiped on our favorites, it wasn’t a match,

Unless you consider a guy with an anime character profile a catch.

As we ran out of likes, an option suddenly appeared on screen,

Though Tinder Gold was something we had frequently seen,

After our failure, we decided to try it,

See what could be gleaned….

10 Must Ask Questions for First Dates

10 Must Ask Questions for First Dates

As all of you know, I am truly an expert at going on first dates. I mainly go on first dates without going on many second dates at all. I love the awkwardness, the conversations with strangers and seeing how different people act within different contexts. All people are different, and all people act differently, but here are a few questions that are an ideal way to make sure that your first date turns out as amazing as possible. They also truly allow you to understand who your date is as a human.

  • If you had to choose between only being friends with trees for the rest of your life, or having a normal number of friends but not being able to speak whenever you are with them, which would you choose? – Channel their natural side and find out how important being the center of attention is to them. Do they love talking so much that they are fine with the only response they get being slight leaf swaying? Valuable knowledge!
  • How much do you think it costs to have a capybara as a pet per year? If they give you any answer, your date is a certified criminal! It is illegal to have a capybara as a pet in most states. You know what having a capybara as a pet has shown a direct correlation with? DRUGS! And lots of them!
  • Where is the best ramen in the city? The only proper answer to this question is I don’t know you’re the expert, you tell me where the best ramen in the city with. This prevents a full-on feud. Ask your date a question that you know only you can truly answer correctly. If they don’t look for you for your ultimate and godly wisdom, then it is a no no sir to that human bean.
  • If an anteater weighs 10 pounds and eats two trader joe’s cases of guacamole and then goes on a 2-mile jog around the entire main island of Hawaii, what is his name? This question tests your date’s IQ. If they do not answer correctly, they ain’t the man for YOU.
  • What is your second cousin’s uncle’s father’s third cousin’s name? First off, this question makes sure there is no shared ancestry that you might awkwardly realize down the line. Also, your date should care about their family! If they do not know the answer to this, they very clearly are not committed to their extended familia and could be subject to some disapproval from Great Uncle Jimbo.
  • Вам нравится есть морковку с пальцами? You clearly want your date to speak several languages so that your future offspring can be certified polyglots who go to Harvard. If they do not understand this important question and answer in perfect Russian, then they are a major нет not to mention a неудачник.
  • What sort of narwhal are you hoping to get from this relationship? Play a classic spin on the traditional and unbelievably obnoxious “So, what are you looking for?”. If they seem confused by this question, especially if used in response to them asking the typical “what are you looking for” question, they are 100% canceled.
  • Would you rather have sixteen ears on your back or eleven eyes on your head? Always good to ask these questions to get to the root of who they are within. What kind of bozo would want ears on their head?
  • Do you like olives? The only legitimate answer to this question is no, you can eat all of them Kayla.
  • Date not going so well? Get him to ask the next question. Dive under the table and begin looking for a nonexistent object so that they have to ask “so, what are you looking for?” so that you can promptly answer “NOT YOU!” and run run run away as fast as you possibly can.
The Beauty in Dating for Fun

The Beauty in Dating for Fun

I am the sort of person who always wants to find a larger purpose to every single one of my actions, and you will rarely see me do anything just for the sake of it. I get so worked up that given any major decision, I think about the decade long impacts that each and every choice I make can have on my life as a whole. Should I walk to work instead of taking the subway? What if this means that I am outside when it starts to rain, which means I have to bring an umbrella, and then I will forget the umbrella because it is not raining later and two weeks from now when it is pouring rain, I will get soaked! This becomes particularly drastic when it comes to dating. Why go on this date if I see no romantic future? Sure they are a fun person to spend time with, but why date them or develop anything serious if I simply cannot see it ending in marriage? Why put in the investment, both time wise and emotionally to someone who you are 99.99% likely to one day breakup with and never speak to again?

This is where dating for the experience might come into the mix. This, to me, doesn’t really mean developing long-term relationships with people for the experience, since I feel like this has the potential to lead to heartbreak, but how about just going on another date with that quirky boy that you met on OkCupid, JDate, Coffee Meets Bagel, Bounce, or whatever obscure dating app that you happen to use because frankly, why the heck not.

In my mind, dating for the experience is first and foremost a social exercise. It is great practice in communication and developing meaningful conversations with people conversationally. As someone to whom this doesn’t come completely naturally, it has been quite helpful to me. Dating for fun can also help you meet people who share your mutual desire to just have fun. Not everyone is looking for the one, and some people are just looking for someone to go out with and have fun with every once in a while in a less than formal setting. No, this doesn’t necessarily mean FWB sort of relationship, your jsut for fun date can be your mini golf, foodie partner too!

Dating for fun can also prepare you for a more serious relationship in the future. You can become more confident sharing about yourself and your past. You can test different flirtations, stories and moves on just for fun dates so that you know how they will go over next time. You can learn how to carry yourself on dates, be less nervous and take yourself less seriously. Maybe even the more you practice dating for fun, the more fun and less extremely stressful all dates might become. There is also something about putting yourself out there and meeting people that can make you feel personally more available and open and ready to love. Getting those awkward date compliments, while tacky and often cringe-inducing, can turn out to be a real confidence booster! “I just want to swim in your curls. They are so bouncy. Can I touch?”

Lastly, it is my opinion that these dates for fun can one day prepare you for finding THE ONE. You aren’t going to meet anyone sitting in your room watching Netflix, no matter how enticing that might be, trust me I understand your struggle. Even if this isn’t a one-on-one date per se, go to that speed dating event, go to the random singles event that you heard about on meetup, hit up that singles bar, go on that weird blind date that you’ve been set up on because not only do you never know what might happen, but you never know the positive outcomes that it can have in the future.

Speed Dating on a Tuesday

Speed Dating on a Tuesday

A post by the one and only Rikki Featherstone:

A complete and accurate rendering of my love life. After having no plans on a Sunday and messaging internet boys to meet me at the local library in which not one agreed to, I did decide to go speed dating. On a Tuesday. So what did this speed dating entail, let me tell you! I met 6 different men, 0 with whom I will see again, all whom I deeply admire and respect on a greater fundamental level. I will share information on all 6 men, all stand up swell 6 men whom I do not wish to date, but perhaps this fun and your favorite email on a Thursday will inspire you to find love by speed dating!

We met at a bar in a place called Alphabet City,

Though the street was quite quiet,

The bar was quite pretty.

Tis the Art of Friendzoning

Tis the Art of Friendzoning

To those of you who have read my posts, you probably have complete faith in my complete lack of dating skills and anything related to that. As a matter of fact, you have heard my struggles and insanely awkward experiences attempting to do anything even remotely, vaguely related to an attempt to date further than the first date. However, one thing that I would never, and no one should ever distrust my experience in is the Art of Friendzoning.  Read more

Four is great, six is fate!: AKA a triple date can be even worse than a double date bc I am cursed

Four is great, six is fate!: AKA a triple date can be even worse than a double date bc I am cursed

As you may already predict about me from the one and only blog post that I have written so far, I am a bit addicted to awkwardness. Yes, I regret it in the moment and it causes my stomach and heart to feel like they are being squeezed by a gremlin, but once it is over, I am confident in the fact that the residual awkwardness not only shapes the stories that I ADORE to tell my friends but my identity as a human being within this extremely awkward place that we call earth.

I think this was largely why I was not satisfied with the double tinder date that I went on. Was it unbearable at times, yes? Was it one of the most socially grueling times of my entire life, for sure. Did I simply need to do it again no matter how completely awful it went, ya betcha I did. For the next few weeks, all I did was petition my friend Raimee to have us go on another one. I begged and pleaded, but even Rachel, whose date did not go completely awfully, had better things to do, obviously, then go on a bad date with two random boys she did not know and probably would never see again. But for me, that was the dang best part! Why worry about the annoying task of accidentally friend zoning every single boy you ever meet? Read more
